Tokyo, Japan, March 10, 2026 – ArkEdge Space Inc. (“ArkEdge Space”), a Tokyo-based space start-up delivering micro-satellite constellations from design to operations, today announced that its climate resilience and geospatial platform demonstration project in the Kyrgyz Republic has been selected for Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) FY2024 Supplementary “Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation” Program (Small-Scale Demonstration / Feasibility Study category).
This project will demonstrate a high-precision flood and climate change forecasting solution by fusing satellite data with AI-driven hydrological simulations. ArkEdge Space aims to bridge critical data gaps in the Kyrgyz Republic, bolstering the resilience of transport infrastructure and advancing disaster risk reduction policies as a blueprint for broader deployment across Central Asia.
To validate the scalability of these technologies, the project will proceed in the following strategic phases:
Data Collection and Local Assessment
In partnership with Kyrgyz authorities, the project team will integrate river discharge data, rainfall records, historical flood damage information, infrastructure impact reports, and existing infrastructure design standards. In regions with sparse ground-based sensors, the project will leverage satellite observation data to supplement measurement gaps and build a robust analytical foundation.
Development of a Satellite Data Analysis Environment
Utilizing ArkEdge Insights®, the company’s web-based GIS platform, the project will analyze watershed characteristics and historical hydrological cycles across Kyrgyzstan. By integrating satellite data with ground observation data, the team will establish the analytical environment necessary to support the development of flood prediction models.

Localization of Flood and Climate Prediction Models
The project will deploy AI-enhanced hydrological models tailored to the specific topography and data availability of the region. Accuracy will be refined through hindcast simulations, validating model results against historical satellite-derived inundation footprints and damage reports.
Alignment with Administrative Needs
Prediction will be integrated into the workflows of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic. The goal is to transform raw data into actionable intelligence for emergency response, bridge maintenance, and the development of future climate-resilient infrastructure standards.
Through an iterative cycle of data collection, analysis, model refinement, and evaluation cycle, the solution will be optimized for local governance requirements.
The demonstration is scheduled to run from April 2026 to February 2027, progressing through stages from initial data acquisition to model construction, validation, and final reporting.
Through this initiative, ArkEdge Space will modernize Early Warning Systems (EWS) and infrastructure management in response to climate change. Ultimately, this project seeks to establish a strategic foundation for deploying advanced Japanese technologies in disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation across the broader Central Asian region.
The project also seeks to establish a foundation for deploying advanced Japanese geospatial and climate resilience technologies across Central Asia, particularly in the areas of disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation.
