Tokyo, Japan, September 18, 2026 — ArkEdge Space Inc. (“ArkEdge Space”) today announced that it has begun development of two 6U-class satellites for an in-orbit demonstration of its Low Earth Orbit Positioning, Navigation and Timing (LEO-PNT) system. Using dual-band L6- and C1-band positioning signals, the demonstration is targeted for FY2028 and will test and validate an end-to-end positioning chain from signal transmission in orbit through reception and positioning processing in the receiver.
A key feature of the mission is the use of L6-band and C1-band positioning signals in a dual-band architecture. The L6-band is used by Japan’s Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) for high-precision positioning and augmentation services and offers compatibility with existing GNSS receiver technologies. The C1-band offers an alternative frequency to L-band, improved performance characteristics such as a lower ionospheric delay and the potential for smaller receiver elements through use of a smaller wavelength.
By demonstrating both L6- and C1-band positioning signals from low Earth orbit, ArkEdge Space will evaluate the feasibility of a more diverse and resilient positioning and timing infrastructure. The company will also expand international collaboration with governments, research institutions, receiver and chipset manufacturers, and critical infrastructure operators in sectors such as transportation, communications, finance, and power.
