Tokyo, Japan, December 9, 2025 – ArkEdge Space Inc. (“ArkEdge Space”), a Japanese space startup based in Tokyo that provides comprehensive solutions from planning and design to mass production and operation of micro-satellite constellations, today announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Seiren Co., Ltd. (“Seiren”). This marks a significant step toward scaling up micro-satellite production to support upcoming constellation operations.
ArkEdge Space has previously commissioned Seiren to manufacture six 6U-class micro-satellites, all of which have demonstrated reliable in-orbit performance, including those that have completed their operational lifetimes. These projects have provided ArkEdge Space with meaningful operational heritage and strengthened its engineering capabilities across satellite design, manufacturing, and testing.
A portion of this work was supported by Japan’s R&D programs under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in FY2021, and subsequently by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) from FY2023 onward under the “R&D Program for Enhancing Space Industry Technology Information Infrastructure (Development and Demonstration of Standardized 6U Satellite Bus and its Production/Operations System).”
Advancing a New Phase of High-Volume Production
Under this MoU, ArkEdge Space will begin transitioning to a significantly expanded manufacturing framework for its 6U satellite platform. The initiative focuses on improving unit-cost efficiency, securing long-lead components, and shortening overall production timelines, which are essential for future constellation deployment. Building on the performance and lessons from the six satellites previously manufactured with Seiren, ArkEdge Space will further enhance efficiency, technical sophistication, and cost competitiveness as it builds a scalable mass-production system. This accumulated operational heritage provides a strong foundation for ArkEdge Space’s future expansion in the commercial constellation market.
ArkEdge Space has developed and operated 15 micro-satellites across 3U and 6U classes, building a strong technical and operational foundation that supports multiple in-house missions. This accumulated experience has enabled the company to refine satellite architectures, streamline development workflows, and validate key technologies in orbit. With these demonstration phases now completed, ArkEdge Space is preparing to transition into a full mass-production structure designed to support future constellation operations and expand its commercial service portfolio.
Seiren, with a history of more than 130 years of manufacturing with excellence, is applying advanced industrial technologies and quality management systems to the space sector. The company has produced several satellites for ArkEdge Space, gaining hands-on experience in precision fabrication, assembly, and testing for space applications. Leveraging this track record, Seiren is now bringing non-space industrial strengths such as scalable production, materials engineering, and process optimization into the satellite domain as it enters the next phase of high-volume manufacturing.
Together, ArkEdge Space and Seiren will establish efficient and highly reliable manufacturing processes that accelerate the move toward large-scale constellation deployment. By combining ArkEdge Space’s flight-proven satellite designs and operational expertise with Seiren’s manufacturing capabilities, the partnership aims to strengthen its competitiveness in the global space market and contribute to the development of a robust production ecosystem.
