ArkEdge Space Selects D-Orbit for Launch and Orbital Transportation Services of Multiple Demonstration Satellites

Tokyo, Japan, July 8, 2026 – ArkEdge Space Inc. (“ArkEdge Space”), a Tokyo-based space start-up delivering micro-satellite constellations from design to operations, today announced that it has signed a launch and orbital transportation agreement with D-Orbit, a leading provider of space logistics and transportation services, for multiple demonstration satellites scheduled for launch from 2027 onward.

ArkEdge Space has been advancing technologies for next-generation maritime communications and data utilization through in-orbit demonstrations, including VDES (VHF Data Exchange System) and RF sensing technologies using its 6U-class satellites. The upcoming demonstration satellites will integrate VDES, satellite IoT, and RF sensing into a common satellite platform to validate both the underlying technologies and their commercial applications.

These satellites are being developed under the Key and Advanced Technology R&D through Cross-Community Collaboration Program (K-Program), commissioned by Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). The program supports the development and demonstration of maritime situational awareness technologies enabled by satellite constellations for ship communications.

Through this agreement, ArkEdge Space will utilize D-Orbit’s ION Satellite Carrier for launch deployment and orbital transportation. By securing these services in parallel with satellite development, the company is taking another important step toward demonstrating an integrated satellite constellation capable of supporting multiple communications and sensing missions.

D-Orbit is a leading provider of space logistics and transportation services, offering launch deployment, orbital transportation, hosted payload, and in-orbit demonstration services through its proprietary ION Satellite Carrier. By carrying multiple satellites and deploying them into their designated orbits, the platform provides a flexible and efficient solution for constellation operators.

Building on its earlier in-orbit demonstrations, ArkEdge Space will keep developing its satellites, preparing for launch, and running future in-orbit tests as it works toward a constellation built on VDES, satellite IoT, and RF sensing. The team will keep working alongside government agencies and industry partners to bring satellite constellation services for maritime communications, maritime data, and RF sensing closer to real-world use.
